Jazzy's Gift
Wayne a homeless man's was so grateful to receive a free large pizza and drink, that he emptied his entire purse of the little money he had, it wasn't much, but it was "All" he had, he gave totally.
As a result of this action, Greg Morton the pizza owner, decided right then and there that whenever Wayne needed food, there would always be a free large pizza and drink available, free of charge.
Greg recalls, how that act of total giving, by Wayne a homeless man, the poorest of the poor, began a process of change in the way he would run his business, so much so, that his pizza business has grown steadily ever since.
Wayne's act of "Total Giving" inspired Greg to do more for his local community, beginning with Wayne, he had a challenge as Wayne would show up regularly and and Greg was now quite unpopular with the other business owners.
Wayne was virtually blind, suffered from severe short term memory loss and also struggled with mental illness, but in his heart Wayne was grateful to Greg and would often ask Greg could he do some odd jobs.
One day a young autistic girl noticed Wayne begging in the shopping centre and knew that Greg was supporting him, so she offered an idea that could help. Jasmine suggested that Wayne could offer hearts for a donation, instead of begging and informed Greg that she had helped a number of homeless people in Frankston and it had been quite successful.
Greg loved the idea and immediately bought 200 hearts and packaged them in colourful gift bags. At first Wayne was scared and not confident at all, he had never done anything like this, but he did go out and five minutes later he came back with a broad toothless smile and waving above his head, his first $2.00 donation. That certainly was a proud and emotional moment for Wayne and for Greg, it was to mark the beginning of an amazing friendship with Wayne over the next 2 years.
Wayne went on to sell over 2000 hearts, the proceeds were distributed 50/50 with the young Autistic girl Jasmine, Greg did not take out his costs, it was an act of total giving. Greg saw it simply as his contribution, to those in greater need. It also gave Wayne a sense of value, knowing he too was supporting someone else in need.
As Greg fed and encouraged Wayne, he felt a growing sense of personal inspiration and began to look for more opportunity to give and to give more, as a result he started giving away 1000's of pizza vouchers to local fundraisers in schools, sporting clubs and charities, throughout his local community. They would sell those vouchers to raise much needed funds and Greg would honour every voucher and once again, he did not take out his costs ...it was an act of Total Giving.
In 2013, Wayne sadly passed away, but not his legacy of "Total Giving" It now lives on in the hearts of others who now also go out and raise funds by offering hearts for a donation. Today Greg's pizza business Big Mates in Croydon has grown, proving that Greg's favourite motto Giving is Living ...has proven economical principles.
Jazzy's Gift a not for profit organization was foundered by Greg Morton, but inspired through Jasmine hearts and Wayne's act of total giving "Jazzy's Gift's" primary aim is to support other fundraisers, committed to supporting their community and those in greater need.
